Overview

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. It operates GO Transit, UP Express and the PRESTO fare payment system and is building new rapid transit projects.

Key Information

Start Rate (Non‑Negotiable): $39.98/hourly.

Shift Details: Continental shift schedule with 40 hours/week.

Type: Contract Full‑Time (covering maternity leave).

Location: Various locations including Toronto, Oakville, and other assigned sites. Flexibility is required.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of the dispatch call room and coordinate with Network Operations Control to address safety risks and incidents.
  • Provide prompt communications and instructions to Transit Safety staff, Supervisors, and Network Operations Control during incidents or major events.
  • Receive, monitor, assess, and triage incoming emergency calls from the public and employees, responding to stressful and life‑threatening situations.
  • Dispatch transit safety officers, police, ambulance, or other emergency personnel as needed, providing required information in a timely manner.
  • Monitor visual and audio communications equipment, including CCTV, UHF radios, and access control points, and operate computerized consoles to relay information.
  • Save and protect video recordings of incidents to maintain accurate records.
  • Handle non‑emergency calls for service and assign them to appropriate Metrolinx divisions.
  • Respond to general inquiries and complaints from the public, prioritizing calls based on importance.
  • Conduct follow‑up calls with citizens, police services, or other agencies as required.
  • Maintain a detailed computerized log of incidents and calls.
  • Operate service databases such as CPIC, PARIS, and ARIS to retrieve and relay information to field personnel.
  • Manage confidential information from policing and security sources while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Assist Metrolinx customers and employees in protecting their property and collateral assets.
  • Establish incident management and command posts at scene locations, communicating updates to stakeholders.
  • Collect and input daily operational statistical data and prepare reports.
  • Make initial decisions on incident reports, coordinate action with emergency responders, and provide status updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary certificate in Emergency Telecommunications or equivalent education and experience.
  • Successful completion of OPP security clearance and Toronto Police Service fingerprinting for access to CPIC and PARIS.
  • Pass corporate safety, environmental, typing, and Critical Public Safety Communicator tests.
  • Minimum 12 months of related dispatch or communications experience with employees, public, and police.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Competent with computers, word processing, spreadsheets, and internet/intranet search techniques.
  • Judgement and sound decision‑making in high‑pressure situations affecting safety and security.
  • Ability to gather information and convey it accurately to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to departmental planning and the development of operating procedures and Incident Action Plans.
